While McDonald’s isn’t a restaurant you want to eat at often, you can order low carb at McDonald’s and safely stay in ketosis.

The fast-food restaurant serves breakfast all day which makes it a bit easier for keto eating out. This means you always have eggs, meat, and cheese as an option on their menu.

You can also choose from a variety of bunless burgers to keep it keto at McDonald’s.

Unfortunately, McDonald’s in the USA no longer serve salads or grilled chicken. However, if you are in a location that does offer grilled chicken salad, artisan grilled chicken sandwich (no bun), or a side salad, those are also great options.

Don’t forget the unsweetened iced tea!

Here is how to stay low carb with keto-friendly options at McDonald’s. All information is based on the McDonald’s nutrition calculator.

Conclusion

Keto dieters shouldn’t eat fast food often (neither should anyone else for that matter). However, keto at McDonald’s can work if you’re in a pinch.

Mcdonald’s breakfast menu has some good keto options. A breakfast sandwich (without the bread, biscuits, or griddle cakes) is generally a good choice to keep your carb count low.

A single beef patty is also a good choice on a low carb diet since it only contains 1 gram of carbs. Add bacon and cheese for a keto meal or snack.

You can also get a keto friendly bunless cheeseburger for 2 grams of carbs. Be sure to omit any sauce and go with water, unsweetened tea, or unsweetened iced coffee as a beverage.

You’ll want to stay away from hash browns, fries, and apple pie when eating keto. If your store doesn’t have grilled chicken, don’t go for Mcdonald’s chicken nuggets or crispy chicken–these are not keto! Enjoy the above options instead.
