• Can teeth whitening brighten all types of stains?

  The most common stains come from foods and beverages, like sodas, wine, and coffee, as well as habits like smoking. These types of stains can usually be removed easily with ZOOM!^® whitening. However, some stains can be more difficult to remove, such as those caused by certain types of medication. During your initial consultation, we will discuss which techniques can offer you the optimal outcome.

  The ZOOM!^® teeth whitening system can noticeably lighten the color of natural teeth, but this method cannot address restorations like fillings and dental crowns. If you have restorations in visible areas of your smile, we can help you find a suitable solution to smile enhancement.

• Will teeth whitening make my teeth sore?

  Dental sensitivity is a very common concern, and we take every precaution to reduce the chance of discomfort during your treatment, including keeping the active ingredients on the teeth and not on the delicate gum area. You can also help minimize sensitivity by using a special toothpaste, such as Sensodyne^® or Colgate^® Sensitive for several weeks leading up to treatment. You may also choose to take an over-the-counter pain reliever prior to the treatment, although most patients find this is unnecessary. Mild sensitivity will usually fade within a few hours after the in-office treatment.

• How long does teeth whitening last?

  In many ways, that’s up to you! If you take good care of your teeth by brushing and flossing regularly and avoiding staining foods and drinks, you should be able to see results for up to six months. If you notice that your teeth are becoming dull or stained in less time, take a look at your dietary habits to see if you can find the culprit there. Even with excellent oral hygiene, some individuals notice the outcome lasting longer or shorter than this six-month baseline. Everyone’s smile is unique, and that’s why we customize each of our programs.

  Many patients like to schedule twice yearly “touch-up” whitening appointments just as they do their routine cleanings. You can also preserve the beauty of your smile by occasionally using at-home whitening treatments. While these kits typically offer less dramatic whitening action than professional procedures, they can be useful for in-between applications.
